Presentation 1: My Design Process Presentation

"To solve a problem you must first know what your objective is. Problem solving is one of those abilities that allegedly distinguishes human beings from other animals. Though many critters can solve problems, and some even use tools, humans are the only creatures that invent new technologies to solve problems." Humans and critters both show at times an extensive process. Below are three projects that I have completed within the past three years. These 3 projects give an outlook on my personal design process. But Before I start explaining each project I must explain the method that I have adopted and use for solving design problems, aka my design process. The 3 projects are BYOB Campaign, Olivia Logo, and Generic Branding Vitamins and First Aid.

The 3 Rules of My Design Process:

(1) Understand the problem: The first and most important step in problem solving consists is comprehension.
(2) Think very hard: The second step in problem solving is investigation.
(3) Write the answer: The third and final step in problem solving is explanation.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible) Campaign

The BYOB Campaign focus was on the creation of a campaign championing the cause or
social issue of my choice choice. This project called for lots of process work and research. Research was essential to building a meaningful and responsible campaign. I had to write my own bired manifesto declaring my aims and objectives. The campaign was compromised of multiple parts to make up a whole system of data mixed media. My BYOB Campaign Mission Statement was:

B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bible) is set up to encourage, inform, and uplift young adults in the word of God. Sharing the message of Christ to all who open their hearts to his guidance. B.Y.O.B is an open and diverse campaign that speaks to the hurting teens in the world. Our purpose is to help teens know that someone loves them, and that if they have tried everything else and nothing has helped them, maybe they should give Jesus a chance. We provide materials, conferences, and meeting locations where we can discuss our own personal struggles with life, and passion for having a stronger relationship with God, the Father of all. We strive to teach teens the importance of bearing the Fruit of the Spirit in their character, conduct and conversation.

First thing I did was go home and write the question out and think about the problem at hand and made sure I understood what was being asked of me.

Second, I researched my topic, and anything that was imperative to aiding the subject of religion, teens, fads, and trends. I used the internet, the library, and observation tactics to collect my data and research.

Thirdly, I gathered my data and compiled it into a presentation that showed my intentions and outcomes for the project. Once I did this, my teacher gave me the go. I started to work on designing my logo, brochure, website, and other memorabilia/ products. The Logo and the content took the longest to define because The bible is a very big book, and teens have way too many fads these days. Therefore I had to design something that would catch their eye and keep their attention.

Olivia The Band Rebranding.

For Olivia the band logo re-branding, I decided to change more than just the logo, but their name as well. Olivia the band is a Christian Rock Band from Hawaii. I changed their name to Oli, which if you say it very quickly it sounds like the word, "holy".

My design process with this project first started out by figuring out what the assignment really wanted me to do. I realized I wasn't catering to the audience or to my teacher but to the band instead. With my focus on the band I searched Hawaiian words that had relations to Christianity and came up with the word Oli. OLI are the first three letters of the word Olivia. The band is named Olivia because one of the band members sister died at a very young age and her name was Olivia. So I had my three letters, and the Hawaiian reference but how would I show the audience their christian aspect if they didn't know the Hawaiian meaning for oli? So I started to Sumi ink brush strokes and letter forms and I came up with the blue one pictured. I scanned it in, and realized it worked perfect because it made the little Jesus Fish.

Generic Branding Vitamins and First Aid.

For the genera brand project I didn't use my usual design process. For this project I only looked up minimal information on generic branding package design, then I researched health, first aid and what colors, are associated with this. The pictures show my placement studies, and color studies. I did many studies with the logo I established and tried it in different locations and on different backgrounds.

The process behind the genera brand logo involved me taking a trip to the hospital and realizing that a lot of health care products had designed with circles. I started putting the cross inside the circle and it took the negative feeling that it looked like the numerical symbol, the plus "+" sign. From there I realized I could used this in all three brands; the main logo, the vitamin logos, and the first aid logos.

The First Aid Package Design Process

The packaging is black and red because black and red are colors that represent danger, and or injury. When you get hurt you sometimes bleed, and the emotion you feel when you hurt can be either, sad, depressing, painful and or

The one thing I did in this project that I did in all three projects was that I did over 150 logo studies. I also went to the library and researched the topic at hand extensively.
